Ben Carter is a saxophonist, composer, musician and graduate from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.
Working in Birmingham, Carter makes music in many different settings, including small and large ensembles, as well as recording in studios with all kinds of musicians. Carter spent 4 years learning from some of the best jazz musicians in Birmingham at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and is now using his talents as a freelance musician and composer.
Originally from Southampton, Ben Carter started learning the alto saxophone from the age of 9 and has always been a very creative musician, enthusiastic when working with other musicians to write and create beautiful music. Inspired by the sound of classic saxophonists like Paul Desmond, Art Pepper and Charlie Parker, Carter aims to bring this sound to a more modern environment, incorporated into free-flowing, complex compositions inspired by musicians like Chris Potter, Kenny Garrett and Bob Reynolds.

In a jazz small band setting, Carter’s new record explores modern jazz ideas and an experimental, vibrant sound. Using original compositions and covers of modern jazz classics, Carter creates music that is bursting with energy.
